NAVER’s Ha Jung-woo Appointed as South Korea’s First Presidential Secretary for Future AI Planning

[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The Office of the President of South Korea announced on June 15 the appointment of Ha Jung-woo, Head of AI Innovation Center at Naver Cloud, as the nation's inaugural Presidential Secretary for Future AI Planning.



Ha is widely recognized as a hands-on AI expert and has played a pivotal role in the development and operation of NAVER’s large language model (LLM), HyperCLOVA X. His appointment reflects the administration’s intent to strengthen AI policy with expertise grounded in real-world implementation.



Ha holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering from Seoul National University. He has been leading Naver Cloud’s AI Innovation Center since April 2023 and concurrently serving as Head of NAVER’s Future AI Center since January 2023.



In addition to his work at NAVER, Ha has held a number of influential roles in the field of science and technology. These include Co-Chair of the Citizens’ Coalition for Right Science and Technology (CGRST), a full member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), an advisory board member at the National Security Research Institute (NSR), a preparatory committee member for the establishment of the AI Safety Research Center, and a regulatory review panelist for the Prime Minister’s Office.
