[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] South Korea’s Lotte Group and GS Group have experienced significant declines in combined market capitalization rankings over the past decade, losing ground to emerging competitors.

According to the Korea Listed Companies Association on April 26, Lotte Group’s total market capitalization fell about 26% over the period, dropping from KRW 27.16 trillion and 8th place in 2016 to KRW 20.07 trillion and 25th place as of this year.

The decline was largely driven by underperformance in key affiliates such as Lotte Chemical, Lotte Shopping, and Lotte Hi-Mart, whose combined market value fell by about 65% over the same period.

Meanwhile, GS Group’s ranking slipped from 17th to 32nd despite a 44% increase in total market capitalization, as competitors grew at a faster pace.

CJ Group also saw its ranking decline during the period, underscoring shifting dynamics in South Korea’s corporate landscape.
