Samsung Engineering announced on the 9th that it held a contract ceremony for EPC (design, procurement and construction) for 'Qatar RLPP (Ras Laffan Petrochemicals Project) ethylene Plant Package No. 1' with Ras Laffan Petrochemicals in Qatar on the 8th.
Samsung Engineering formed a joint venture with Taiwan's CTCI, and out of the total contract amount of about 3.1 trillion won, Samsung Engineering's performance is about 1.6 trillion won and the contract period is 44 months.
The ordering company, Rasrapan Petrochemical, is a joint venture between Qatar Energy, a Qatar state-run energy company, and Hebron Phillips Chemical, a U.S. company.
The project is to build ethylene production facilities and utility infrastructure (U&O) in the industrial complex of Ras Laffan, located 80㎞ north of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
When completed, it will produce 2.08 million tons (t) of ethylene annually, the world's largest, and supply it to nearby high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packages.
