While the government is investigating LG U+'s customer personal information leakage accident, the Personal Information Protection Committee noted that the amount of leakage could be higher than the 180,000 known cases.
According to the telecommunications industry on the 11th, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), the Renovation Committee, and the National Police Agency visited the LG U+ Sangam-dong IDC Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul from this morning to conduct an on-site investigation.
Later in the day, the committee announced the launch of an investigation into LG U+'s violation of the Personal Information Protection Act through a briefing on the results of the plenary session.
The renovation committee said it recognized that personal information such as the names, birth dates, and phone numbers of some customers of LG U+ was leaked, and that it launched a fact-finding investigation on the 9th to find out whether they violated the Personal Information Protection Act and conducted an on-site investigation at the Sangam office, the gathering site of LG U+'s IT system, on the 11th.
According to LG U+, the number of customers whose personal information has been leaked is 180,000, and each individual whose information has been leaked is notified through text messages and e-mails.
