[Alphabiz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Korean fighter KF-21 "Boramae" made its first supersonic flight on the 17th. It has been about six months since the success of the first flight of the Prototype 1 on July 19 last year.
According to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the KF-21 Prototype 1, carrying pilot Lee Dong-kyu of the Korea Aerospace Industry (KAI), took off from the Air Force's 3rd Training Wing in Sacheon at around 2:58 p.m.
KF-21 broke the sound speed for the first time, flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet over the South Sea at around 3:15 p.m. Mach 1, which indicates the propagation speed of sound, corresponds to 1,224㎞ per hour, and the speed beyond this is supersonic.
Since its first flight on July 19 last year, KF-21 has continued to expand its flight area, including altitude and speed, through more than 80 flights so far.
In this flight, the KF-21 showed structural stability of the gas in the sound speed area even in the sound speed breaking flight situation.
