[Alphabiz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] As Woori Financial Group Chairman Sohn Tae-seung, whose term ends in March, announced his abandonment of his second term, attention is being paid to who will become the next chairman.
Among incumbent insiders, Woori Bank President Lee Won-deok and Park Hwa-jae, president of Woori Financial Group's business support division, have emerged as strong candidates, while former Woori Financial Group executives and outside figures are also mentioned as candidates.
According to the financial sector on the 18th, Woori Financial Group's executive candidate recommendation committee held a closed-door meeting to select about 10 next chairman Longlist (1st candidate).
Woori Financial Group said, "The executive recommendation committee have selected a long list for about 20 internal and 10 external candidates, including representatives of subsidiaries, some executives of holding companies and banks, and heads of overseas subsidiaries," adding, "For those subject to the long list, a reference check (reputation inquiry) will be conducted with consent to collect their personal information from the head hunting company."
Based on the long list, the committee plans to select a shortlist that compresses the number of candidates for the next president to 2∼3 later this month.
Among internal executives, bank president Lee Won-deok and president Park Hwa-jae are mentioned as major candidates.
