[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] POSCO Chemical will supply cathode materials worth 40 trillion won to Samsung SDI for 10 years starting this year. It is the largest supply contract ever since its establishment.
POSCO Chemical announced on the 30th that it has signed a contract with Samsung SDI to supply high-nickel NCA (nickel cobalt aluminum) anode materials for electric vehicle batteries. It is the first time for POSCO Chemical to supply cathode materials to Samsung SDI. With this contract, it is possible to expand the portfolio to NCA in addition to NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) and NCMA (nickel, cobalt, manganese, aluminum), which have been mainly produced. Samsung SDI also secured a stable cathode material supply network.
POSCO Chemical plans to announce plans sooner or later to expand its Korean plant to produce cathode materials to be supplied to Samsung SDI and to build new plants in Europe and other countries. It is known that Samsung SDI plans to supply batteries produced with cathode materials received from POSCO Chemical to global automakers such as Stellantis.
