[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kia will close its first plant in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, which produces Carnival and K9, for five days. This is due to a setback in the supply of semiconductors for vehicles with "side impact sensors" imported from abroad.
According to the industry on the 4th, Kia held a meeting with union executives the previous day and agreed to shut down its first plant in Gwangmyeong Autoland Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province from the 9th to the 13th.
In order to cope with semiconductor parts shortages, it is unusual to shut down the factory completely, even though the conveyor belt is turned empty. Gwangmyeong Plant 1 produces Carnival, K9, and Stinger.
Prior to the shutdown on the 9th, the company plans to partially adjust production volume from the 6th to the 8th. After the 14th, some supply will be resumed considering the semiconductor parts situation.
