[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung and LG are planning to expand their micro-light emitting diode (LED) TV lineup and countries to be released earlier this year.
Samsung Electronics is planning to start selling 89-inch micro LED TV as early as next month. It is the company's first product under 100 type, and it will strengthen its global market penetration with the existing 110 type.
The 89-inch microLED TV was first unveiled at CES 2022 in the United States early last year. Preparations for order production are in the final stage, and Samsung Electronics will start selling as early as next month. Starting with North America, Europe, and the Middle East, it will be expanded sequentially throughout the world. The price per unit is likely to be around 100 million won. The launch of the domestic market is undecided.
LG Electronics is also expanding its sales of micro LED, which was first introduced to the North American market at the end of last year. The 136-inch micro LED 'LG Magnet' is an enterprise signage product, but it is equipped with a TV operating system 'WebOS' and can be used as a home TV. After opening it for the first time at 'IFA 2022' held in Germany in September last year, it started ordering production in the North American market in December. As soon as it was released at a price of more than 100 million won, it was reported that several units were sold on home TVs.
LG Electronics has expanded its sales of 136-inch products from North America to Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia this year. Although the product has been certified as a radio wave in Korea, the release date is undecided. It is expected to open its first micro LED TV business this year based on the global market.
