[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The Fair Trade Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service have called on banks and other financial firms to improve unfair terms and conditions
The Fair Trade Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service jointly held a meeting of related agencies to improve unfair terms and conditions in the financial sector at the Bank Hall in Myeong-dong, Seoul, on the 16th. The meeting was designed to enhance financial firms' ability to review their terms and conditions of financial instruments and strengthen internal control.
The meeting was attended along with the FTC and FSS officials from four financial associations, including the Korea Federation of Banks, the Credit Finance Association, the Korea Federation of Savings Banks, and the Korea Financial Investment Association, as well as six banks including Kookmin Bank, four credit card companies including Shinhan Card, and two savings banks.
First of all, the Fair Trade Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service explained the criteria for terms and conditions and major corrective cases, urging financial firms to make efforts to prevent and improve unfair terms and conditions on their own.
The Fair Trade Commission asked for caution to prevent repeated violations, explaining the main contents of the terms and conditions review guidelines, the terms and conditions review guidelines in the financial investment sector, and the types of unfairness pointed out in the terms and conditions in the financial sector. The Financial Supervisory Service guided major correction cases on recent cases of enactment and revision related to the terms and conditions of financial transactions and the terms and conditions that may violate the rights and interests of financial consumers and asked them to prevent similar cases from occurring.
