[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics is planning to produce semiconductors for vehicles based on artificial intelligence (AI) through a high-tech semiconductor consignment production (foundry) process. Samsung Electronics plans to increase its sales of non-mobile products to more than 50% in the foundry business by 2027 by increasing its fair competitiveness.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 21st that it will produce semiconductors for autonomous vehicles from 'Ambarella', a US AI semiconductor company, with a 5 nanometer (nm and one nano is a billionth of a billionth of a billionth) foundry process.
The semiconductor produced by Samsung Electronics this time is Ambarella's latest system-on-chip (SoC) "CV3-AD685," which is installed in advanced driver support systems (ADAS).
The CV3-AD685 is equipped with Ambarella's next-generation AI engine (CVflow) and acts as a brain for autonomous vehicles by judging and controlling driving situations entered through cameras and radar.
Samsung Electronics produces high-performance and low-power semiconductors for autonomous vehicles by combining automotive-only IP, the latest process, packaging technology and know-how in the advanced 5-nano process.
The cooperation between the two companies is expected to raise the safety level of next-generation driver support systems based on high-performance and low-power artificial intelligence semiconductors in the field of autonomous vehicles.
