[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air announced on the 1st (local time) that it has received approval from the UK Competitive Market Authority (CMA) for a business combination related to the acquisition of Asiana Airlines.
CMA earlier extended the screening period to the 23rd of this month for further review on Jan. 26 after Korean Air submitted a voluntary correction plan on Nov. 28 last year.
Korean Air remains approved by the EU (EU), the United States and Japan. EU competition authorities began the main screening on Jan. 16 after about two years of prior consultation and have been undergoing the second phase of the screening process since Feb. 20.
The U.S. Department of Justice extended the screening period last year, saying further review was needed. In the case of Japan, it is in the process of prior consultation with its competitors, and Korean Air will soon receive a formal report and finalize the process.
