[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Gas will enter the 'LNG bunkering' business that supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel to LNG ships.
According to the industry on the 14th, SK Gas will invest 1.2 trillion won to launch the LNG bunkering project by utilizing the Korea Energy Terminal (KET), an LNG terminal built in Ulsan Port.
Once the LNG bunkering infrastructure is established, Ulsan Port will be equipped with private commercial bunkering facilities for the first time in Korea.
SK Gas will push for a bunkering method to supply LNG to LNG propulsion ships through LNG bunkering ships at sea.
The project is part of the Northeast Asian oil and gas hub North Port project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024. The first phase of the Northeast Asian oil and gas hub construction project began in July 2020 and LNG and oil storage facilities are currently under construction. The target period for operation is 2024.
