[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] As of the end of last year, the National Pension Service held 138.9 billion won worth of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) stocks and bonds, a report showed.
According to data submitted by the National Pension Service to Choi Hye-young of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the Health and Welfare Committee, the National Pension Service held 121.8 billion won worth of SVB shares as of the end of last year. Direct investment amounted to KRW 29.5 billion and consignment investment amounted to KRW 92.3 billion.
The National Pension Service also held 17.1 billion won in SVB bonds as of the end of last year.
"The consignment management company sold some of the bonds just before the decision to close the bank on March 10 and ordered the operator to sell them in accordance with operating regulations on the 13th due to a drop in SVB's credit rating," the National Pension Service explained.
