[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Heavy Industries is working with a Norwegian company to develop the next-generation autonomous liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 20th that it has signed a joint development project agreement (JDA) with Kongsberg for the development of autonomous ships.
Kongsberg is a global professional equipment maker with the highest technology in automation and navigation systems and digital solutions mounted on ships. Through the agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries will optimize the latest remote autonomous navigation and low-carbon technology to create a 174,000-square-meter next-generation LNG carrier with safer and higher energy efficiency.
Samsung Heavy Industries plans to strengthen its strategic cooperation with Kongsberg and strengthen its competitiveness in digital and eco-friendly products by actively targeting the future autonomous shipping market.
