[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor and Kia announced voluntary corrective measures for 571,000 units sold in the U.S., including Santa Fe and Carnival, citing defects in towing-connected terminals that connect trailers to the back of their vehicles on the 23rd (local time).
The targets are the 2019-2023 Santa Fe, the 2021-2023 Santa Fe Hybrid, and the 2022-2023 Carnival.
Hyundai and Kia said that if these vehicles are parked in an indoor garage, moisture or dust can cause problems in the connected terminal circuit for towing and cause a fire caused by a short circuit. He then recommended that the vehicle be parked outdoors until the problem is corrected.
Hyundai Motor has so far confirmed one fire and five heat loss accidents, while Kia said there have been no reported accidents.
Earlier last year, Hyundai and Kia recalled 240,000 Palisade and Telluride vehicles sold in the U.S. for similar problems.
