[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Roh So-young, who is seeking a divorce from SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won, was found to have filed an alimony suit worth billions of won against Choi's roommate, Kim Hee-young, chairman of the T&C Foundation.
According to legal circles on the 27th, Roh So-young filed a lawsuit against Kim to the Seoul Family Court. The alimony demanded by Noh So-young totaled KRW 3 billion.
Chairman Choi and Roh So-young got married in September 1988, the first year of the late former President Roh Tae-woo's inauguration, and had three children, but they broke up.
Choi confessed his relationship with Kim in 2015 and publicly told the media that he would divorce Roh due to personality differences. Chairman Choi later applied for divorce mediation, but it eventually led to a lawsuit, and Roh, who was opposed to divorce, also changed his position in 2019 and filed a countersuit.
Roh So-young is demanding 300 million won in alimony and 50% of Choi's SK㈜ shares in property division. It is close to 1 trillion won in terms of amount.
The first trial acknowledged 100 million won in alimony and 66.5 billion won in cash, but both sides have appealed and are set to undergo an appeal hearing at the Seoul High Court.
It is said that 66.5 billion won is the highest amount of property division ever.
Since then, both Roh So-young and Choi have filed an appeal against the first trial's ruling, and the second division of the Seoul High Court's household affairs (presiding judge Kim Si-chul) is currently hearing the case.
