[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Competition between CJ Korea Express and Coupang for "next day delivery" will begin in earnest next month. CJ Korea Express, which has been the undisputed No. 1 in the domestic courier industry, seems to be weakening its market dominance as its market share in the courier market has steadily fallen by 5 percentage points over the past three years.
According to the courier industry on the 30th, CJ Logistics is planning to launch a 'Tomorrow Must! One' service that ensures that the products ordered today will be delivered by tomorrow from April.
This is a service that clearly delivers the product ordered today by tomorrow under a separate contract with the seller, and if it is not delivered the next day, CJ Korea Express will guarantee the seller first.
If a seller using CJ Korea Express requests the entire logistics process, he or she will perform tasks such as product storage, inventory management and package at the Fulfillment Center operated by CJ Korea Express for the products ordered by midnight and deliver them the next day.
If CJ Korea Express's One service is in full swing tomorrow, direct competition with Coupang's next-day delivery service, Rocket Delivery, is inevitable. Coupang is also expanding its existing rocket delivery service to ordinary sellers recently.
CJ Korea Express, Hanjin and Lotte Courier have been losing market share due to Coupang's recent offensive.
According to CJ Logistics' business report, the company's delivery market share stood at 45.7 percent last year, down nearly 5 percentage points from 50.1 percent recorded in 2020. The volume, which was 3.63 billion units in 2021, also fell slightly to 3.61 billion units last year. The amount of collection also decreased from 1.75 billion to 1.65 billion during the same period.
