[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety confirmed that some of Dongseo Food's coffee mix products contain silicon packing (foreign substances) and asked the competent authorities for administrative action. In addition, Dongseo Foods was ordered to recall eight kinds of Maxim Mocha Gold coffee mix.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said on the 4th that it took the action after conducting a joint on-site investigation with Changwon City, South Gyeongsang Province, the previous day after recognizing that Dongseo Food recalled its coffee mix products.
According to the investigation, silicon packing was removed and crushed from production facilities used to manufacture coffee raw materials at Dongseo Food's Changwon plant and mixed into coffee raw materials. It was also confirmed that the final product, Maxim Mocha Gold Mild Coffee (273,276㎏), was produced and partially distributed and sold, using the coffee material containing silicon at Dongseo Foods' plants in Changwon and Incheon.
According to European Union (EU) standards, polymer materials such as silicon resin are generally not digested and absorbed into the body and are released out of the body. The potential health risks of silicone resins are known to be minimal.
Consumers who purchase Maxim Mocha Gold mild coffee mix can request the buyer to return or exchange or receive recall-related information from Dongseo Foods if the expiration date is a product subject to recall.
