Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Ecopro, a global secondary battery material company, is planning to expand its plant in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
According to Gyeongbuk Provincial Government and Pohang City Government on the 6th, Ecopro is in talks with Pohang City to build a factory that comprehensively produces secondary battery materials such as raw materials, precursor and anode materials at the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex in Donghae-myeon and Janggi-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang.
Pohang City said Ecopro aims to start construction in the second half of this year and operate the plant in the second half of 2025.
Investment is expected to reach 2 trillion won and more than 1,000 employees.
However, an Ecopro official said, "We are discussing investment with Pohang City, but nothing has been confirmed yet."
In Pohang, 1 million tons of bipolar materials will be produced annually by 2030, focusing on leading companies such as EcoPro and POSCO Future M (formerly POSCO Chemical).
