[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Chem and CJ Korea Express collect packaging labs from logistics centers across the country and start recycling them. The two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul, to recycle plastic resources and build a circular economy.
CJ Korea Express collects packaging wraps that are discarded at logistics centers across the country and delivers them to LG Chem. The LG Chem decided to manufacture it as a recycling lab through PCR (Consumer Post-Recycling) technology and supply it back to CJ Logistics. Most packing labs are used to fix things in logistics centers and industrial sites so that they do not shake. Most are polyethylene (PE) products.
The LG Chem plans to supply 1,000 rolls of recycled labs from the end of this month and increase the supply in the future. Currently, the domestic PE market collects 800,000 tons of waste annually, but only about 300,000 tons of recyclable renewable resins.
The two companies expect the eco-friendly project to reduce the surge in shipping waste while creating a recycling ecosystem that effectively collects packaging wraps generated at each logistics center by utilizing the logistics network.
