[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Co. sold 282,193 units in the first quarter of this year in the European market, up 4.7% from last year.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 19th (local time), Hyundai Motor sold 133,622 units in Europe in the January-March period, up 7.6% from a year earlier, and Kia sold 148,571 units, up 2.2%.
The combined market share of the two companies stood at 8.7 percent, down slightly 1.1 percentage points from the first quarter of last year. Hyundai Motor (4.1%) fell 0.4% and Kia (4.6%) 0.7%.
Sales of electric vehicles by the two companies fell 20.6 percent on-year to 33,831 units in the first quarter.
