[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Ecopro, which recently surpassed 15 trillion won in market capitalization, has been designated as the first group of companies subject to disclosure.
In the future, Ecopro will be subject to the same regulations as large companies such as Samsung, SK, and Hyundai.
The Fair Trade Commission said on the 25th that it plans to designate 82 companies as a group of companies subject to disclosure on the 1st of next month. The business group subject to disclosure is a business group with assets exceeding KRW 5 trillion and is also called a "large business group." It will be obliged to disclose the current status of business groups, key matters of unlisted companies, and large-scale internal transactions.
The number of companies subject to disclosure this year has increased by six from last year. Eight groups have been newly designated, including LX and Ecopro, which were separated from LG. The FTC explained that the number of companies subject to disclosure has increased due to the growth of business groups that have entered new industries such as secondary batteries.
Among the business groups subject to disclosure, the number of cross-shareholding restriction groups with assets exceeding 10 trillion won increased by one year-on-year to 48. Three new companies, Coupang and Janggeum Merchant Marine, have been designated. Kyobo Life Insurance and two Dunamu companies were excluded.
