[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Korean Air announced on the 9th that it will start in-flight Wi-Fi service on international routes operated by Boeing 737-8 aircraft from the 1st of next month.
The first models to be provided with this service are short-distance routes such as Gimpo-Osaka, Incheon-Fukuoka, and Incheon-Osaka. Afterwards, it plans to expand wireless Internet services to all international routes, including Airbus A321 Neo and Boeing 787.
There are two plans, Internet and messaging. The fare depends on the distance of flight and the time of use. For example, the fee (messaging) for sending text messages to messengers such as KakaoTalk and Line on short-distance routes such as Japan and China is $ 4.95. When searching online, sending photos and videos, and streaming video or music (Internet) on long-distance routes such as the US and Europe, it is $ 10.95 for two hours and $ 20.95 for unlimited use.
This service can be used by selecting the desired service from the purchase-only site that is connected to the plane and paying for it. However, use is restricted during takeoff and landing of aircraft.
In commemoration of the start of the service, Korean Air will provide free messaging services to passengers aboard the service-provided aircraft for three months from next month to August.
