[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Ecopro Chairman Lee Dong-chae, who was indicted on charges of taking 1.1 billion won in unfair profits using undisclosed information from his company, was sentenced to prison in the second trial.

According to legal circles on the 11th, the Seoul High Court's Criminal Affairs Department 5 (senior judge Seo Seung-ryul) on the 11th sentenced Chairman Lee, who was indicted on charges of violating the Capital Market and the Financial Investment Business Act, to two years in prison with a fine of 2.2 billion won.

In addition, the court ordered Chairman Lee to collect 1.1 billion won.

Chairman Lee, who was sentenced to three years in prison, five years of probation and a fine of 3.5 billion won in the first trial last year, was sentenced to prison in the second trial and arrested in court on the same day, saying he was feared to flee.

"It is an important crime to take unfair advantage of undisclosed information," the court said. "The punishment is significantly lighter to sentence a suspended prison term, the same as the original trial."

Chairman Lee is suspected of taking 1.1 billion won in profits in the form of buying and selling shares in advance before the supply contract information of EcoproBM, an affiliate of the manufacturer of anode materials, was listed in the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system between January 2020 and September 2021.
