[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hanon System, which manufactures car heating and cooling systems, said on the 24th that it has decided to invest $40 million (about 52.7 billion won) in Block County, Georgia, to build a new plant. The new plant will be built near an electric vehicle-only plant under construction in Georgia with an annual capacity of 300,000 units by Hyundai Motor Group. The goal is to operate in May next year.
According to the Hanon System, the establishment of the new plant was aimed at strengthening local production capacity in line with the expansion of new US electric vehicle plants by major customers such as Hyundai Motor, Kia and Ford. Once completed, it is expected to serve as a key supply chain for Hyundai Motor Group's electric vehicle plant.
Hanon System has developed an 'integrated heat management system' that directly affects the mileage of electric vehicles and is recognized for its technological prowess. Until now, the indoor air conditioning system has been a convenience component that provides air conditioning and heating functions, but it has emerged as a key component in an electric vehicle that affects not only mileage but also battery life and charging speed.
