[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Park Tae-young, president of Hite Jinro, who was indicted on charges of driving work to affiliates owned by the owner's family in order to expediently succeed, will be judged by the Supreme Court.
According to legal circles on the 26th, the prosecution filed an appeal with the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Department 4-3 (Chief Judge Lee Hoon-jae, Yang Ji-jung and Lee Tae-woo) who reviewed the case on the 24th.
Park is the eldest son of Hite Jinro Chairman Park Moon-deok.
On the 23rd, the second trial court sentenced Park, who was indicted on charges of violating the Fair Trade Act, to one year and three months in prison with two years of probation and ordered 80 hours of community service.
Kim In-kyu, head of Hite Jinro, who was indicted together, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for one year and fined 150 million won to Hite Jinro Corporation, which was put on trial for joint punishment regulations. Former executive director Kim Chang-gyu was sentenced to four months in prison and suspended for one year, as in the first trial.
The court saw that Park and others could not avoid responsibility in that they avoided legal regulations even though they were aware of the illegality. However, for some of the charges, the court decided to reduce the sentence from the first trial, saying that there was not enough evidence to prove that the defendants conspired.
CEO Park and others were put on trial on charges of illegally providing a total of 4.3 billion won in work by inserting Seoyoung E&T, an affiliate where Park is the largest shareholder, in the process of manufacturing and distributing beer cans by Hite Jinro from 2008 to 2017.
Seoyoung E&T is a small and medium-sized company that manufactured draft beer devices and delivered them to Hite Jinro, and CEO Park took over and holds a 58.44% stake, the survey showed.
The first trial sentenced Park to one year and six months in prison, suspended for two years and ordered 120 hours of community service, saying Park's criminal activities undermined fair market order.
CEO Kim and former managing director Kim were sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for one year, suspended for four months, and suspended for one year, respectively, and fined Hite Jinro Corporation 200 million won.
