[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor has started selling electric bicycles with electric motors on bicycles in France. It plans to create synergy by utilizing electric car brands that are already widely recognized in Europe.

According to Hyundai Motor's French subsidiary on the 30th, Hyundai Motor will sell its electric bicycle "Next" at 3,490 euros (about 5 million won) at its dealerships across France from the 17th (local time). It also provides free rental service to customers who want it.

Hyundai Next developed it in collaboration with Spanish electric bicycle maker Raybolt. It was named as "Next" in that Hyundai Motor aims for future mobility.

The maximum speed of Next is 25㎞ per hour. If you exceed this speed, the electric motor automatically stops. The battery is located at the bottom of the saddle column and the maximum driving distance when fully charged is 80㎞. The steering wheel has a screen that shows the remaining mileage and battery settings, and the battery can be removed separately if not needed. It can also be used to exercise at home through applications such as RegenFit and Eiva, targeting the French market where indoor cycle culture is developed.

Hyundai Motor has also added a regenerative braking function to its electric bicycle to increase its mileage. Rehabilitation braking refers to the function of charging batteries by converting energy and heat generated when a driving vehicle slows down into electricity. The industry believes that the mileage of electric vehicles can increase up to 10% depending on the efficiency of rehabilitation braking.
