[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The separation membrane plant of SK I Technology (SKIET), a producer of secondary battery separators, has become visible in North America.
SKIET announced on February 2 that it has signed a contract to supply secondary battery separators to North America and other overseas regions for a long time.
However, the contract amount, contract partner, and major contract terms were not disclosed at the request of the other party.
Considering that the disclosure standard amount is more than 2.5% of annual sales, the contract amount is expected to be at least 14.6 billion won. SKIET's latest sales are 585.8 billion won.
The contract period is from October to September 2030.
As this contract secures local customers such as North America, it is expected that the business will gain momentum when it confirms its entry into North America in the future.
Considering the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), it is essential for the separation film to enter North America.
SKIET is set to enter the market around 2028, when more than 90% of North American battery parts are required.
Once it is confirmed to enter North America, the construction of the separator plant will be completed by 2027 and commercial production will begin in 2028.
