[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Lotte Chemical's labor union has declared its withdrawal from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. The move comes as union members are increasingly dissatisfied with the role of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' industrial union.

According to industry sources on the 12th, the labor union at one of Lotte Chemical's flagship workplaces, at its Daesan plant in South Chungcheong Province, decided to withdraw from the Korean Chemical Textile and Food Workers' Union, an industrial union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, through a general meeting of its members at the end of last month. The percentage of union members who agreed to this agenda was 80.25%.

Recently, unions of public institutions and private companies have announced their withdrawal from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. The reason was that the direction was different from the higher organization, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, or the role was unclear. POSCO, the Bank of Korea, the Financial Supervisory Service, GS Engineering & Construction and the labor union of Wonju City Hall in Gangwon Province have left the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.
