[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Pohang branch POSCO branch has officially withdrawn from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' metal union. Recently, complaints that the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions failed to represent the interests of individual companies have clearly spread the withdrawal of private corporate unions from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.
According to the industry on the 13th, the POSCO branch of the Pohang branch received a report certificate from the Ministry of Employment and Labor that said it had been converted from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' metal union to a corporate union. From now on, the POSCO branch of Pohang branch will act as a 'POSCO Independent Labor Union' in the form of a corporate union.
In addition, the Typhoon Hinnamnor damage that hit POSCO's Pohang steel mill was also a decisive factor. In September last year, the Pohang Steel Mill suffered unprecedented flooding damage due to the Typhoon Hinnamnor, but there was reportedly no support from the Korean Metal Workers' Union.
As a result, POSCO will operate on three pillars: the POSCO Independent Workers' Union, which left the Korean Metal Workers' Union and turned it into a corporate union, the POSCO branch of the Gwangyang Branch, which is still a member of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, and the POSCO Union, a member of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions.
