KEPCO, which has a cumulative deficit of 46 trillion won, is expected to exceed 1 trillion won in deficit in the second quarter

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] With electricity bills frozen in the third quarter of this year, Korea Electric Power Corp., which failed to reflect soaring fuel costs in its charges, is expected to continue its deficit of more than KRW 1 trillion in the second quarter.

KEPCO's consolidated operating loss in the second quarter was expected to be 1.37 trillion won.

The operating loss peaked at 10.8 trillion won in the fourth quarter of last year and then fell to 6.2 trillion won in the first quarter of this year, before being reduced to around 1 trillion won in the second quarter.

KEPCO is expected to post a deficit of 5.8 trillion won in 2021 and 32.6 trillion won last year, with its cumulative deficit expected to reach 46 trillion won after 2021 after announcing its second-quarter earnings.
