[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor Group will produce a follow-up model of Genesis G70 and GV80 from 2026 at Hyundai Motor Group's Metaplant America (HMGMA), a new plant dedicated to electric vehicles under construction in Georgia, the U.S. It is the first time that a detailed model to be produced by HMGMA has been known.
According to the 'eM' platform electric vehicle production plan that Hyundai Motor Group shared with its component partners on the 28th, it will mass-produce RN2, a follow-up model to the Genesis G70, and JX2, a follow-up model to the GV80, at its Ulsan plant in Korea and HMGMA in the U.S. from 2026.
The annual production target for the two new cars is over 100,000 units. RN2, the first eM-based electric vehicle to be made by HMGMA, has a higher proportion of production in the United States than in Korea. As of 2027, RN2 35,000 units (13,000 in Korea and 22,000 in the United States) and JX2 68,000 units (35,000 in Korea and 33,000 in the United States) will be mass-produced.
HMGMA is building a site of 11.83 million ㎡ (about 3.58 million pyeong) that can mass-produce 300,000 electric vehicles annually. Construction of the plant will begin in the first half of this year and mass-produce various electric vehicles from the first half of 2025.
