[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] While Hanwha Ocean's labor and management are negotiating wages and collective agreements, the company has proposed its first basic salary increase to the union.

According to the industry on the 29th, Hanwha Ocean delivered a proposal for wage and collective agreement to the union, which calls for an increase of 88,000 won in basic salary (including 23,223 won in regular pitching). This is about half of the basic salary increase demanded by the union.

The union's earlier proposal to the management in March included an increase in the basic salary by 184,900 won, a 10,000 won increase in service allowances, a one-year extension of the retirement age (61 years old), preservation of 100 percent of wages and improved treatment for office workers.

Hanwha Ocean's labor and management are holding negotiations for this year's wage and collective agreement, starting with a meeting between the families of the bride and the bridegroom on the 30th of last month. The company included △ an increase of 5,000 won for each section of continuous service allowance △ an incentive of 2 million won (1 million won for settlement and 1 million won for co-prosperity).

The industry expects to face difficulties in future negotiations as there is a wide gap in views on the basic salary increase rate of labor and management.
