[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Cho Hyun-ah (49), former vice president of Korean Air, who was rumored to have been involved in the Peanut Return incident 10 years ago, reportedly changed her name to Cho Seung-yeon.
According to the business community, former vice president Cho applied for a change of name to the Seoul Family Court and was approved.
Former vice president Cho, who was once active in management activities, caused a stir in December 2014 over the so-called "peanut return" case that delayed takeoff by taking issue with an employee's in-flight service on a Korean Air flight from New York to Incheon, and was charged with the case and sentenced to 10 months in prison with two years of probation. Due to the incident at that time, he gave up all positions in the group, including the vice president of Korean Air and the Carl Hotel Network.
He returned to the president of Carl Hotel Network, a group affiliate, in March 2018, three years and four months later. However, in April of that year, about 15 days after his return, the water cup gapjil case of his younger brother Cho Hyun-min (current president of Hanjin) was criticized by the public as it became known to the public, and when the gapjil scandal such as verbal abuse by the owner family spread, he put down all his posts again.
Since the death of the late former chairman Cho Yang-ho in April 2019, Cho formed a "three-way alliance" with private equity funds KCGI and Bando E&C to fight for management rights with his younger brother, Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae, but lost.
After failing to take control of the company, former vice president Cho reportedly cut off contact with his younger siblings and suspended his external activities. He also did not attend the memorial event for the former president for four consecutive years until this year. Former vice president Cho was divorced after a lawsuit in December last year.
