[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Ecopro, a global rechargeable battery material company, will invest in the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex to produce KRW 2 trillion worth of anode materials, the largest ever.
According to Pohang City and North Gyeongsang Province on the 13th, it signed an investment agreement worth 2 trillion won with Ecopro at the conference room of Pohang City Hall earlier in the day.
Under the agreement, EcoPro plans to invest 2 trillion won on 210,000 pyeong of land in the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex by 2028 to build the "EcoPro Blue Valley Campus (tentative name)," a consistent production plant for secondary battery anode materials such as raw materials, precursor and anode materials.
Construction will begin in the second half of this year and aims to operate the production plant in the second half of 2025, with more than 1,000 new workers expected to be hired.
This is the largest single investment in North Gyeongsang Province and Pohang, and Ecopro, which has an annual production capacity of 180,000 tons (as of 2023), plans to expand its production capacity of anode materials to 710,000 tons by 2028, starting with this investment.
