[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] An international round-trip flight from Incheon to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, was canceled on the 16th due to a dispute by Asiana Airlines' pilot's union. This is the first time that a cancellation has occurred on an international flight since the pilot's union began its strike.

Asiana Airlines informed passengers the previous day that flight OZ731, which was scheduled to leave Incheon International Airport at 7:35 a.m. and arrive in Ho Chi Minh at 11:05 local time, was canceled due to collective action by the pilots' union.

As a result, OZ732's return flight, which was scheduled to depart from Ho Chi Minh at 12:05 p.m. local time and return to Incheon at 7:25 p.m., was also canceled. There were 125 passengers on flight OZ731 and 171 passengers on flight OZ732.

Asiana Airlines criticized the move, saying, "It is a collective selfish behavior that takes the people's right to move hostage," adding, "We were able to preserve the company by injecting taxpayers' money during the COVID-19 crisis, and all members of the union were high-income earners."

"The pilot union should immediately stop the dispute and faithfully respond to negotiations," he said. "As the pilot union's collective action could cause major problems in safe operations, it should stop the dispute and start negotiations between labor and management."

According to Asiana Airlines, eight domestic flights were canceled until the 15th due to the labor union's law-abiding struggle, while 54 flights, including 35 international and 19 domestic flights, were delayed.

Meanwhile, Asiana Airlines' pilot union will go on strike indefinitely from the 24th. It is the first strike by a national airline pilot since 2016 and the first strike by Asiana Airlines in 18 years since 2005.
