[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 20th that it would allocate 800㎒ width of 5G frequency 28㎓ band and 20㎒ width of anchor frequency to new telecommunication businesses.
The frequency band allocated this time will be supplied as a new operator-only band over the next three years. The frequency usage period was decided to be five years from the date of installment considering the schedule for commercialization of 6G.
In principle, the method of allocation is through auction in accordance with the Radio Waves Act. Where one business operator makes an exclusive bid, the price for calculation by the government through examination shall be converted to allocation.
The cost of allocating frequencies has been drastically lowered. The national minimum competitive price at auction is 74.2 billion won. It is one-third of the 207.2 billion won allocated by the three telecommunication companies in frequency auction in 2018.
