[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] After voluntary retirement was carried out among Kakao affiliates, the union eventually stepped up. This is the first time that the Kakao union has taken collective action against the company.

The Kakao branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' National Chemical Fiber Food Industry Union held a rally in front of Pangyo Station's Kakao hideout on the afternoon of the 26th under the slogan "Save Kakao."

More than 300 union members from Kakao Gaming, including Kakao Enterprise, Kakao Entertainment and XL Games, participated in the rally.

They called for an apology from Kim Bum-soo, head of Kakao's Future Initiative Center, in connection with a series of voluntary retirements recently pushed by multiple Kakao affiliates. He also protested against the appointment of Baek Seung-yeop, former CEO of Kakao Enterprise, as an advisor, who stepped down to take responsibility for management failures.

Kakao Enterprise's management performance has been declining since it turned into a deficit in 2021. Kakao Entertainment's operating profit more than halved to KRW 25.8 billion last year.

Kakao Enterprise has been receiving applications for voluntary retirement for two weeks since the 17th. It is known that prospective retirees will be paid up to six months of basic salary in addition to severance pay.

Kakao Entertainment also implemented the retirement system NCP (Next Chapter Program) last month, which is practically voluntary retirement. Kakao Entertainment's voluntary retirement has been completed.

XL Games, the maker of "Arch Age War’" released by Kakao Games, will receive applications for voluntary retirement from the 1st of next month.
