[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 27th that it recorded sales of 1.7981 trillion won and operating profit of 83.1 billion won in the second quarter of this year. Sales rose 23 percent year-on-year, while operating profit fell 5 percent.
By business, sales and operating profit rose 80% and 58% year-on-year to 600.1 billion won and 23.8 billion won, respectively, reflecting the performance of Hanwha Defense, which was merged in April this year.
The aviation business saw its sales rise 10 percent to 401.9 billion won and operating profit fall 76 percent to 5.5 billion won compared to the same period last year. As the COVID-19 crisis virtually ended and travel demand increased, sales increased due to increased demand for aircraft engine maintenance. However, in the second quarter of this year, the performance decreased compared to the previous year because there was no profit from the engine business that was temporarily reflected in the same period last year.
Hanwha Vision, a major subsidiary, posted 284.1 billion won in sales, up 11 percent from the same period last year, due to a continued increase in CCTV sales in the North American market. Operating profit rose 28% to 45.7 billion won, the highest quarterly operating profit ever.
