[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Lotte Energy Materials has decided to invest 560 billion won in Spain to build a high-end copper foil production plant.

Combined with annual production of 30,000 tons, global copper foil production is expected to increase to 240,000 tons by 2028.

Lotte Energy Materials said on the 7th that it will start building a smart factory in Spain that produces high-end copper foil with the aim of completing it by 2025. It invests 560 billion won in Mont-roig del Camp, Catalonia and produces high-end copper foil for batteries for electric vehicles with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons.

The company originally planned to build a 25,000-ton plant by 2024, but as demand from local customers in Europe increases, the company will expand the production volume to 30,000 tons and adjust the completion date to 2025.

The total area of the Spanish factory site is 440,500㎡, which is the size of 62 soccer fields. It can accommodate 100,000 tons of high-end copper foil production lines. In the future, about 500,000㎡ of land for solar power generation will be secured.

The plant is expected to have a stable power grid based on eco-friendly renewable energy such as solar energy and meet the RE100 (100% use of renewable energy) standards required by the European Union (EU).

The Spanish government is providing various incentives, hoping to create hundreds of jobs following the construction of the Lotte Energy Materials Smart Factory.
