[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Nexilis, a manufacturer of copper foil for secondary batteries, said on the 7th that it will supply all copper foil to the first mass production of secondary batteries for electric vehicles by German battery maker VARTA.
VARTA, a traditional rechargeable battery company, has recently secured more than 300 million euros in investment from the German government to expand its secondary battery business for electric vehicles.
SK Nexilis will supply Varta with high-quality copper foil with 40% higher tensile strength than general products, and discuss long-term supply contracts for more than five years in line with future VARTA expansion.
SK Nexilis also signed a copper foil supply contract worth up to 1.4 trillion won with North Bolt of Sweden, Europe's largest secondary battery manufacturer, in February.
