[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Financial Holding Company's presidential nomination committee announced on the 8th that it has confirmed a total of six candidates, including four internal candidates and two external candidates, as a short list of candidates for the next chairman.
Among the internal candidates were Park Jung-rim, head of KB Financial Group's general division (CEO of KB Securities), Yang Jong-hee, vice chairman of KB Financial Group, Lee Dong-chul, vice chairman of KB Financial Group, and Huh In, vice chairman of KB Financial Group. External candidates decided not to disclose it by guaranteeing anonymity.
Park, the first female CEO of a domestic securities firm, is considered a dark horse candidate with expertise in asset management (WM). Yang, who served as head of KB Insurance, was the first of the three vice chairmen to become vice chairman in 2020 and served as vice president of finance at KB Financial.
The vice chairman has extensive experience not only in banks but also in non-banking areas, including insurance and credit cards. He led the acquisition of Hyundai Securities (currently KB Securities) and took charge of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) projects several times.
Heo served as president of KB Kookmin Bank, a key affiliate, and was also included in the final four short lists when he was appointed as the next chairman in 2020. He is also a year younger than President Yoon, who majored in law at Seoul National University in 1980 and graduated in 1979.
KB Financial Group plans to conduct the first interview with six short lists on the 29th and narrow down the number of presidential candidates to three. Afterwards, on September 8, a second in-depth interview with three candidates will be conducted and the final candidates will be confirmed through a vote.
