[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' objection to the bid results for the Ulsan-class Batch 3 5-6 project was finally rejected.
According to industry sources on the 9th, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration selected Hanwha Ocean as its preferred negotiator on the 14th after conducting an on-site inspection on the bidding for Ulsan-class ships No. 5 to 6 from the 5th to 6th. Hanwha Ocean scored 91.88 points and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries received 91.74 points, 0.14 points lower.
HD Hyundai served as a factor in the defeat by receiving a security deduction of 1.8 points for allegedly stealing the concept blueprint from the Korean-style next destroyer project put out by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. in 2020.
Last month, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries raised the results of the bid for ships No. 5 and 6 to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and the agency decided to reject it after forming and reviewing an evaluation verification committee involving internal and external officials and experts to decide whether to accept and reject the objection in accordance with the regulations.
An official of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said, "We are sorry that the objection of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries was not sufficiently explained in the results of the retrial by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration."
