[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A woman in her 50s, who was being treated at a hospital in an accident in which she was caught in a machine at the Shany bakery, an SPC affiliate, eventually died.

According to the police on the 10th, an employee in his/her 50s died while being treated at the intensive care unit of CHA Bundang Hospital.

A was taken to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest while moving the dough contained in a circular stainless steel container to a lift machine in a group of two people at a Shany bakery factory in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, at around 12:41 p.m. on the 8th.

A, who was working under the lift machine at the time, was found to have been involved in the accident when another worker B, who was at the top, operated the machine without properly checking safety.

The police are investigating B on charges of professional negligence resulting in death, while investigating whether there were any other safety rules, mainly from factory officials.

SPC said in a statement on the day of the accident, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the employees and their families who have been in an unexpected accident."

However, this accident of SPC affiliate is not the first time.

At the plant, a worker in his 40s was cut in October last year when a machine jammed his finger, and at the Shany baking factory in Seongnam, the finger of a worker in his 50s was caught in a machine and fractured in July.

In October last year, C, a worker in his 20s, died in a jammed accident while operating a sauce stirr at the SPL bakery plant in Pyeongtaek, the same SPC affiliate.

In the end, SPC Group Chairman Huh Young-in promised to strengthen safety management while apologizing to the public, but critics say it is a "bread factory of death" in the endless accidents of workers.
