[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Telecom has invested 130 billion won in Anthropic, the most notable artificial intelligence (AI) company in the United States.

SK Telecom announced on the 13th that it has invested $ 100 million (about 130 billion won) in Anthropic, a US-generated AI company, and has entered into a partnership to strengthen AI business cooperation.

Anthropic, headquartered in San Francisco, USA, was founded in 2021 by researchers from Open AI. 'Claude' of Anthropic is rated as one of the best AI chatbots along with 'Chat GPT’' of open AI. Recently, we have attracted large investments from US big tech companies such as Google and Salesforce.

Anthropic has a great strength in terms of safety by applying the 'Constitutional AI’ technology' to minimize the harmfulness of generative AI. U.S. President Joe Biden invited CEOs of Anthropic, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI to the White House last May to discuss AI technology safety issues.

SK Telecom and Anthropic will promote business cooperation in the joint development of large language models (LLM) and the establishment of AI platforms. The two companies plan to develop multilingual LLMs together that can be used by global carriers such as Korean, English, German, Japanese, Arabic and Spanish. In this process, Anthropic also supplies SK Telecom with a means to fine-tune and optimize the basic LLM according to its purpose.
