[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] POSCO Group and Doosan Group have entered into a legal dispute. This is due to the additional construction cost caused by the introduction of the 52-hour workweek.

According to the business community on the 16th, Doosan Enerbility, an affiliate of Doosan Group, filed an arbitration with the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board demanding an additional payment of about 310 billion won to Samcheok Blue Power, which POSCO Group set up to operate the Samcheok Coal Thermal Power Plant.

The 52-hour workweek, which took effect in July 2018, a month before the construction of the Samcheok Coal-fired Power Plant, began the dispute. Initially, Samcheok Blue Power discussed whether to reflect the 52-hour workweek in the contract with Doosan Enerbility, but decided to renegotiate the settlement amount later after signing the contract based on the existing law.

Since then, Doosan Enerbility has demanded about 310 billion won, saying the implementation of the 52-hour workweek has increased the construction period and labor costs, but Samcheok Blue Power has protested the plan and will decide the dispute through the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board.
