[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] In the first half of this year, the unused mileage of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines was around KRW 3.4 trillion.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 20th, Korean Air's mileage deferred income was 2.4637 trillion won and Asiana Airlines' deferred income was 942.9 billion won as of the end of June, with the two companies' deferred profits totaling 3.4066 trillion won.

Compared to Lee Yeon-ik at the end of the first half of 2019 before COVID-19, Korean Air increased 12.2% from KRW 2.1951 trillion and Asiana Airlines increased 33.6% from KRW 705.7 billion, respectively.

Previously, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines extended the validity period of their mileage, which was scheduled to expire in 2020∼2023, by up to three years in consideration of the blocked sky.

Both airlines have a ten-year term of validity for mileage accumulated after 1 July 2008.

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, which are in the merger process, need to increase their financial stability after the merger by reducing their debts as much as possible due to such mileage exhaustion.

As a result, the two companies continue to expand services that can use mileage to reduce 'debt' and increase customer convenience.
