[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The game industry has not been able to show any new box office hits and has been sluggish overall.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 19th, Netmarble Chairman Bang Joon-hyuk received 732 million won in salary in the first half of this year. Last year, he received only 1 million won in benefits, but his salary is completely the same. Chairman Bang has not received bonuses for more than two years since 2021 as part of responsible management due to poor performance.
Song Byung-joon, chairman of Com2uS, received 1.02 billion won in salary, the same as in the same period last year. Chairman Song received a bonus of 700 million won every year from 2018 to last year, including management incentives and special incentives. However, last year, Chairman Song received bonuses in the second half of the year, so it was not included in the first half of the year's remuneration.
Lee Ji-hoon, head of Devsisters, who has been suffering from chronic deficits, has also not received bonuses since last year. In 2021, he received a bonus of 1.84 billion won, including special incentives, due to the success of the MMORPG (Multi-Access Role-Playing Game) 'Cookie Run: Kingdom'. However, Devsisters has been in the red for the past five consecutive quarters without releasing any significant new works.
WeMade CEO Jang Hyun-kook, who became the "annual salary king" in the first half of last year, also received 501 million won this year only for salaries and other earned income without bonuses. CEO Jang received 8.62 billion won in compensation, including 8.12 billion won in bonuses, in recognition of his investment in Lion Heart Studio, which developed Odin in the first half of last year.
