[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics announced on the 29th that their smart home platform will be linked in a cloud manner within the year and home appliances can be controlled mutually. It is likely to be linked in November.

The two companies have been working together since last year as members of HCA, a global consumer electronics consultative body. Samsung Electronics, a representative HCA company, will start linking with Vestel, a Turkish home appliance maker, and Sharp, a partner brand. It will also interact with LG Electronics within the year.

A total of eight countries, including South Korea and the United States, will launch linked services this year. Consumers in the country that use SmartThings applications (apps) can control Samsung Electronics' home appliances and TVs as well as LG Electronics and Vestel's home appliances.

A total of nine products are targeted, including refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. It supports functions that consumers use most frequently, such as remote operation, termination, and monitoring. We will expand brands that can be linked in the future and continue to upgrade various home appliances and functions such as cooktops and hoods to make it easier to use.
